How to keep my hair looking wet and not puffy?

well my hair is thick and I have extremley tight curls . I like to leave my hair down but when I do it gets dry and puffy . I use gell with 1O+ stregnth and even leave in conditioner but it doesnt last very long .. any ideas ?
