Is becoming an author a good goal for me?

If you hate grammar, you're answering your own question already. You would never be taken seriously by an agent regardless of how unique and interesting your story idea is. But if you are serious about it, you would have to be willing to study English or take writing/journalism courses. Even then it's a long, uphill battle for any writer to get noticed. It's up to you how serous you are, but good grammar would be the first place to start.
